Life in Today’s World

Life in Today's World.jpg

In this wide world where money, education, and superstitious beliefs are given importance over moral and ethical values, it wouldn’t be a surprise if one puts forth a question as to what one must do to lead a life that is pleasing to everyone?

Well, different people with their diverse experiences will certainly give us different answers but it is important that we on our own realize that the virtues we uphold and the ethics we practice are ultimately what lead us through the right path.

Indeed it is true that it is what we are that matters in life, not who we are for the latter is highly incidental. It has been a common observation that too many people seem to live their lives not for themselves but just for the sake of pleasing others. It is saddening to know that humans are quite often being used as proxies to none other than their fellow human beings but one must understand that people don’t choose to become proxies, it is just that their circumstances force them to work for these unscrupulous hypocrites.

Apart from reasons like jealousy, fear, and hatred, people work as proxies for something they would do anything for or something they think is above everything, Money. It is true that humans need money for their daily requirements but we must at some point of time or the other understand that – We must earn to live and not live to earn. Money should be something that satisfies our needs and not our greed.

Will Smith once stated, “Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.” This quote more or less sums up human attitude in today’s world where people are ready to lose their identity in order to earn some money in whatever way possible.

The burning question today is – “Can we make our lives more sublime?” The answer could be a ‘YES!’ but what must we do so as to proceed in that direction? Well, the best way to solve this problem is to change our attitudes and furthermore to change the way this world looks at money which is by far an impossible task.

It is the poverty of the mind and not materialistic poverty which is affecting millions around the world. So if the poor are rich in thoughts then poverty will pale into insignificance. The real test is with one’s neighbor. Emerson once said, “Every man takes care that his neighbor shall not cheat him. But a day comes when he begins to care that he do not cheat his neighbor. Then all goes well. He has changed his market-cart into a chariot of the sun.”

There are many steps we can take so as to progress in our everyday lives. These steps include a disciplined approach in our duties, learning to be humble, kind, and worldly-wise and most importantly to work with the notion that God Governs and everything that is in this world comes from our Great God.

“My concern is not whether God is on our side, my greatest concern is to be on God’s side for God is always right” said Abraham Lincoln who failed in business twice, had a nervous breakdown and was defeated in eight elections yet without getting discouraged rose up to become the sixteenth president of The United States of America.

A man always has a choice between riches and being righteous and in order to make a decision, he or she must know what they really mean. In simple terms, riches is what we wish to attain while righteousness is what God wants us to attain. Man must live with the idea that he is not the greatest in this world but must at the same time understand that he is an integral part of this great world God created.

In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years. So let us, in the midst of all our sufferings and hardships work hard, put our best foot forward and always remember to pray to God that his will may be done in our lives because God’s plans has always been good and perfect for man.
